Another day of cool weather

Slept in this morning, didn't awake till 7:30am. It was great!! When I did get out of bed I spent the morning on the internet learning a bit about web sites. Have decided to maybe set up a web page for e-commerce. It may be kind of neat (neet?) to sell some of my products internationally over the web. Ah well, when I get time I'll look at it more closely. This afternoon I harvested some more mesclun and made deliveries. The other lettuces are coming along in leaps and bounds. Checked the zucchini and it is almost ready to come out from under the row cover. I guess flowers should start to appear within the next few weeks-way ahead of schedule and once these are polinated I'll then have melons. Also planted some extra peas. Figured it wouldn't hurt to have a few extra. The carrots are showing and the beets are all up. No sign of the beans yet. Going into town tomorrow to pick up some meat shop equipment and again on Tuesday for the sewing machine, knitting machine, loom, serger and wools, etc. Still don't quite understand why I've bought all this stuff, but maybe a Higher power has a plan.

Well, enough mindless babble. Must sign off and get some sleep. The best of wishes and remember, "every cloud has a silver lining".

End of a long day!

Well its almost beddy bye time, but first I must submit a new post. What a strange day weather wise. All day change, change, change. One minute overcast and dull, the next brilliant blue sky. The temperature also kept shifting around. It was hard to know what clothing was appropriate for outdoor activity. Today I did a bit of work on the rock garden outside my front door and did a bit more weeding in the veggie garden. I also ordered a sausage stuffing machine from Ontario. I have decided to resurrect Kurtsheiseur Meats, my specialty meats brand. Why not? I'm only going this way once and maybe it will give some employment to someone. Finished the leftover chicken cacciatora tonight before settling down to watch 'Point Break' starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Not a bad movie if you don't mind a bit of violence.

That's it for today. Must go get my beauty sleep. Boy! I'll have to sleep for months if sleep will increase my beauty. Anyway, ha, ha...... must go. Have a good one and pass on a little happiness to someone else, you'll feel better for it.

A bit early in the day!

Usually I'd still be working outside or tackling some of the many projects indoors at this time of day, but I've just decided to take a break. I couldn't figure out how to post pictures to the blog so.........I've set up an archive on Photobucket. See the link on the top left hand side of this screen. I can't remember what order they're in but here are some small descriptions:

Looking up driveway is just that. Looking from the lettuce plots up my driveway to the road. From where this picture was taken, to the right can be seen Zuchini & Squash. The zuchini bed is in the middle of the picture and has row cover (white filmy stuff) on it. To the right of zuchini is a smaller plots (also with row cover) for the squash. In the background can be seen the small greenhouse that houses the tomatoes. There is a picture of five (5) small plots all in a row. I think it is entitled Lettuce Garden. You may find it hard to see the reasoning, but believe it or not this is where I grow LETTUCE's! Ha ha. This pic is taken back on to the driveway. The other pics are of the Veggie Garden and there's not much to say about that area at this time. When everything is a little further along I'll post another pic and give some comments. Almost forgot, there is also a pic of Herb Garden. In here I grow (amongst other medicinal herbs) chives, oregano, mint, thyme, tarragon and savory. Speaking of herb garden-last night I made chicken cacciatora and used fresh herbs out of the garden. Along with it I had a mesclun salad from the lettuce garden. What a difference fresh herbs make! I'm eating leftovers again tonight. What a meal this would be with fresh homemade bread!!

The gardens will be creating another income stream and so I've decided to give this little business a name. Here's a contest of sorts for the budding author anongst you. Create a name for this business and if I use it the winning author will win a free basket fresh veggies. When you think you have a name, submit it to the comments link found after this post.

Well, enough for now. I must go back outside and do a little more weeding. Take care, be good to yourself and smile. You know, its contagious!!!

Start of another week

Before I go any further there are a few apologies that must be said. First-sorry there have been no entries the past few days. It seems I must have done something to the computer when I tried to adjust my security settings. I wasn't able to make any postings until I returned my settings back to the originals. The second is not really an apology but rather a kind of kick myself in the behind routine. Seems I totally missed the boat on the p-d-g thingy. Just goes to show, you should never eavesdrop. Ah well, let's get on with what's happened over the weekend.

On Saturday I discovered that grubs had eaten all the cucumbers so I had to go buy new seedlings. It would take too long for me to start new plants. When I planted them I used row cover and also set beer traps. Beer traps are bowls of beer placed near the plants. Supposedly the grubs try to drink the beer and drown. Something seems to be working as today I still have the cucumbers. I haven't dared lift the cover to check the traps. I don't remember what else I did on Saturday.

Yesterday I worked on Philip's tractor and seem to have been able to make it work a little better. Philip is Philip of Philip and Julie. The live up the road from me and have a horse and chickens along with their farming activities. I spent some time also helping prepare for the arrival of their new cow. Which actually is a bull, not a cow. I agreed to buy the meat from this animal in the fall, if they decide this is what they want to do. Oh just remembered. Sometime over the weekend I weeded(sort of) the garden. There are still many weeds, but I'm not so concerned about the ones between the rows.

Today I had to replace the brocolli. The grubs destroyed them last night. I also figured out how to use the digital camera and will try to post a picture today if I can do it. I'll only include one picture in this post as it may slow downloads if I post more. I will include more pictures in other posts. Let's see if I can get a picture to go here. Well, it seems some more research must be done. I can't seem to get the picture from Adobe Photoshop accepted on this blog. Sorry!! I'll just have to read the instructions I suppose. Better luck next time. Just remembered, I also mounted my ship's bell outside the front door. Today I purchased a sewing machine (computerized), a knitting machine and a serger. Tomorrow I have to arrange the delivery of same along with the loom and a truck load of various wools, etc. I still don't understand why I've bought these things. I don't know how to use them. Well something to do over the winter I suppose.

I'm turnt now. I really wanted to post a picture. Must go learn how to do it. Till next time - take care, best wishes and enjoy what gifts you've been given.

TGIF

I honestly don't know what difference it makes now that its Friday. Its just another day and more work to do tomorrow. The cabbages and brussel sprouts are all transplanted. The only thing left is the squash. Had a gander at the zuchini today and WOW, if they all produce, I'll be swimming in melons. I suppose you call the zuchini fruit-melons? The romaine is doing quite well, its now about 6" high. At this rate I'll be harvesting way ahead of schedule. Spent the whole day in the garden and didn't see any sign of either Henrietta or the bunnies. It was warm and sunny today so maybe they are taking a rest after the last several days of foul weather.

Was thinking I must do something about finding a companion, or partner, or soul mate or something. All this constant work is just too much for one person and constantly being alone is a bit of a bummer. It would be nice to have someone to interact with occassionally. Henrietta is ok to talk to, but I'm afraid its a bit of a one sided conversation and I don't think she quite appreciates my jokes! Its also a real pain having to cook for one. There's all kinds of interesting recipes I'd like to takle, but its just too much bother preparing things for me alone. Talking about that, I'm slowly getting the kitchen ready for the new stove installation. Can't wait to try it out.

Well, must go get something to eat. Oh by the way - does anybody know what "p-d-g" means? Heard it in a conversaion relating to a new baby and had to fake my way through it. Would be nice if I could sound at least semi intelligent! HA!!!!!!!! That will be the day!!! LOL. Anyway must go. Take care, have good thoughts and pass on a smile. Talk to you soon.

Thursday and its still coolish

Well here we go. The weather is still cool and this morning it was foggy and damp but I still did some work around the garden. Around lunch time 2 friends (Paul and Kathy) came and picked me up for a shopping trip. I badly needed more soy sauce so we went to a little specialty shop on Water St. east and I was able to pick up an 8 litre bottle of the real thing. Believe me when I say 'the real thing'. Compared to the kind sold in most supermarkets, the real fermented sauce makes the supermarket stuff taste like water and bad water at that. We then went for a little sightseeing and eventually stopped at the Jumping Bean in St.Thomas's (between St.Philips and Paradise on Conception Bay) for a coffee. What a marvellous spot! They roast their own beans, serve delicious coffee and supply some very interesting imported food stuffs. I bought a bottle of Honey and Herb infused vinegar. It was excellent mixed with olive oil and poured over the fresh mesculn salad I harvested when I got home. Anyway, not a big exciting day, but it was a break and it was good to chat with someone other than Henrietta the grouse. Now its on to bed for a little sleep before whatever tomorrow may bring. Bye, bye all and take care.

Wednesday's Update

Sorry I missed yesterday's ramblings, but it was a kind of mixed up day. Nothing really accomplished that I can remember and I was totally exhausted. The little break was badly needed. The weather was coolish and mostly drissle. We obviously have not had any heavey rain as you will see later in today's post.

It was cool again today and still very heavey mist and drissle. Should that be 'drizzle'? Ah well, who cares. I think you get the drift. Anyway back to what happened today.

Moved the tomatoe plants into the small greenhouse and also planted the broccoli. As mentioned earlier we certainly have not had any heavey rain as the ground was powder dry when I dug into it to plant the broccoli. It is presently 3:27 pm. and I'm contemplating if I should go back out and plant the cuccumber, brussel sprout and cabbage seedlings. I also removed the stump from the middle of my lawn and reseeded the area. Probably won't go back outside as I'm a little damp and chilled, but who knows? Time waits for no man-or Superman such as me!!!! Have decided to go out and plant the cuccumbers. The others can wait till tomorrow. I'll also have to bring in a little firewood as its chilly in the house and the temperature is supposed to drop later this evening. Must also contemplate what to cook for an evening meal.

Well, must go plant. If anything exciting happens, or I feel like blabbing some more, I'll write more later. If not, bye till tomorrow.

Monday, June 18, 2007

Well its now 8:24 pm. and some rain is finally falling. It may sound strange, but I hope we get a deluge tonight. The ground is really dry. I'm calling it a day and thought I'd put down a few words while waiting for 'din dins' to cook. Finished fencing in veggie garden, planted the remaining flowers, cleared up a BIG pile of junk that was lying in the driveway. All this junk had at one time been collected in the house. Now that I've got a bit of space I hope to get some of my renovations completed. Sometime soon maybe I'll get a few minutes to figure out the digital camera. Then I should be able to post some pics. But for now I must go stuff my face and then get a nice hot soak. Bye for now and let's see what tomorrow may bring?

Its 7:30 am and already the temp in the house is 71.1F (or around 29 degrees C). This blogging thing is totally new to me so please excuse my mistakes. I will post more as the day wears on.

Today I hope to finish planting and complete the fence surrounding the main veggie garden. The first mescul mix should be harvested either today or tommorrow.
